Description:

A Night to Remember: Folk Guardians of Worcester, "Connecting through Culture", will take guests on a journey all around the world, to countries with rich African heritage; where the sounds and choreographies made are the syncretism of the Afro with the Indigenous, giving rise to the emergence of the first Afro-Latino, Afro-Caribbean and Afro-American dances.

The audience will learn about the richness of African culture and its intersectionality with countries such as Haiti, United States, Mali, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Peru, Puerto Rico, Ghana, Colombia, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Experience the beauty of traditional folk dances and songs and get transported to a country you've never been to by immersing yourself in the sound of music and exuberance of their melodious dances. Jump to the beat of some African drumming with Crocodile River Music. Join the all-star group Querencia Dance Company with their high energy and synchronized salsa dance. Be amazed by the intensity of the Afro-Brazilian dance Maculelé, Move your body to the tune of the always energetic Haitian and Afro-Dominican dances and end the evening with the pageantry and exhilaration of Guardians of Traditions' masqueraders.

This event focuses on celebrating the richness and diversity of the city of Worcester, demonstrating that we can retain our cultural identity and diversity and be part of the community; after all, "where there’s roots, there’s power."
