SUMMARY:Massachusetts Pirates vs. Frisco Fighters - OPENING NIGHT
DESCRIPTION:The Massachusetts Pirates and Frisco Fighters will meet for both teams’ first game of the 2022 season at the Phoenix Field at the DCU Center in Worcester\, MA. The last time these two teams matched up against each other was in the IFL Semi-Final game at Phoenix Field where the Pirates came away with the win\, 43-22 to advance to the United Bowl. The most notable game between both teams was during their second game versus each other in 2021 when Josh Griggs kicked a 27-yard game-winning field goal. A former Pirates player now is a part of the Fighters roster as Pirates long-time fan favorite Defensive Lineman JD Griggs signed with Frisco during this offseason. \nThe Pirates have a 2-1 record (1-1 at the DCU Center) versus the Fighters during their matchups in 2021\, which was the first season that both the Pirates and Fighters were a part of the Indoor Football League. Over their three matchups\, the Pirates edged out the Fighters in their rushing attack 253-219 yards\, while the Fighters edged out the Pirates in their passing attack 271-240 yards. In terms of scoring\, the Pirates outscored the Fighters 114-99. \nThe Pirates will be revealing their United Bowl Championship banner during the pre-game ceremony and will be looking to start their path to defending the championship with a win in front of their home fans. Kickoff is at 7:00pm and doors open at 6:00pm. \n

SUMMARY:Virtual Poetry Writing Workshop with Susan Roney-O'Brien (March)
DESCRIPTION:This virtual poetry workshop is a vehicle for critique\, a time of close reading and thoughtful responses that help craft the written word so that it says exactly what the author intends. Please join us. Writing prompts will be shared with registrants one week before the workshop\, and we request you submit your work at least three days before the workshop to give attendees time to read your poem. \nSusan Roney-O’Brien earned her MFA at Warren Wilson College and is the author of five poetry collections. She hosts monthly poetry readings\, teaches workshops and coordinates the Stanley Kunitz summer writing series.

SUMMARY:Writing the Weird: Virtual Author Talk & Reading with Christopher Boucher
DESCRIPTION:Christopher Boucher’s novels have been called “crazed\,” odd\,” and “stunningly surreal;” they feature strange elements like talking Volkswagens\, spirits on bicycles\, and hearts that leave people’s bodies and take vacations. What draws writers and readers to stories that are unconventional\, uncanny or surreal? Chris will take up this question\, among others\, as he discusses his most recent novel\, Big Giant Floating Head (a 2019 Massachusetts Book Award Finalist). Chris will give a short reading from his book\, followed by a Q & A. \nChristopher Boucher is the author of the novels How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive (2011)\, Golden Delicious (2016) and Big Giant Floating Head (a 2019 Massachusetts Book Award Finalist)\, all out from Melville House. He’s also the editor of Jonathan Lethem’s nonfiction collection More Alive and Less Lonely: On Books and Writers (Melville House\, 2017) and the managing editor of the literary journal Post Road. Chris lives in western Massachusetts and teaches writing and literature at Boston College. In his free time\, he plays the five-string banjo.

SUMMARY:Build A Shaker Style Nightstand
DESCRIPTION:Build a beautiful Shaker nightstand in 12 weeks and learn traditional joinery (mortise and tenon\, hand-cut dovetails in the process). It has been said that if you can build a proper Shaker style night stand you can build almost anything. More accurately\, the traditional joinery you will learn in Build a Nightstand (no nails\, no screws!) can be applied to thousands of other projects. Students should be familiar with procedures for milling hardwoods. Some experience with hand tools (i.e. hand planes and chisels) would be helpful\, and completion or strong familarity with machines covered in Technocopia's Wood Shop 1-3 is a prerequisite. In this course students will first cover design considerations then learn to construct the nightstand case\, i.e. legs\, aprons and top. During the second phase of the course students will learn the skills necessary to build a drawer including hand cut dovetail joints and the care and use of chisels. Out of class preparation will be required. Students will need to have out of class access to either the Technocopia woodshop or another in order to complete work preparing them for the next class session. A material fee ($100) will apply for those unable to obtain their own wood. Max class size will be 4 students and without a minimum of 2 students class will be canceled and a refund issued.  \nPrerequisites: Technocopia Woodshop 1-3 or Instructor's permission. Please reach out to jeff.voss@technocopia.org \nTuition Fee: $500 plus Material fee: $100 \nRequired hand tools (may be borrowed from Instructor for the class): \n\n¼”\, ½” and 1” socket chisels (English style steel)\nDozuki or English style pull-saw\nHigh quality combination square (12”)\nMarking gauge\nBevel gauge or dovetail template\n\nThursday nights\, 7-10pm\, March 3rd – May 19th

SUMMARY:"If I Forget" by Steven Levenson - POSTPONED to May 11-22\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:From the author of "Dear Evan Hansen\," IF I FORGET is Steven Levenson's latest work. In the final months before 9/11\, liberal Jewish studies professor Michael Fischer has reunited with his two sisters to celebrate their father’s eighty-fifth birthday. Each deeply invested in their own version of family history\, the siblings clash over everything from Michael’s controversial scholarly work to the mounting pressures of caring for an ailing parent. As destructive secrets and long-held resentments bubble to the surface\, the three negotiate—with biting humor and razor-sharp insight—how much of the past they’re willing to sacrifice for a chance at a new beginning. IF I FORGET tells a powerful tale of a family and a culture at odds with itself. \n“ . . . passionate and provoking . . . irritable and animated\, the Fischers come vibrantly alive in [Levenson’s] funny\, bruising\, searching voice . . . IF I FORGET speaks to both the head and the heart.”           The New York TImes
