SUMMARY:Master Series lecture: "Us Them We | Race Ethnicity Identity"

SUMMARY:Virtual Poetry Writing Workshop with Susan Roney-O'Brien (March)
DESCRIPTION:This virtual poetry workshop is a vehicle for critique\, a time of close reading and thoughtful responses that help craft the written word so that it says exactly what the author intends. The focus is the work itself. Poets are respectful of each other\, value the craft\, understand the courage it takes to have work critiqued\, and make the final decisions about their own writing. Please join us. Writing prompts will be shared with registrants one week before the workshop\, and we request you submit your work at least three days before the workshop to give attendees time to read your poem. \nSusan Roney-O’Brien earned her MFA at Warren Wilson College and is the author of five poetry collections. She hosts monthly poetry readings\, teaches workshops and coordinates the Stanley Kunitz summer writing series.

SUMMARY:Writing the Weird: Virtual Author Talk & Reading with Christopher Boucher
DESCRIPTION:Christopher Boucher’s novels have been called “crazed\,” odd\,” and “stunningly surreal;” they feature strange elements like talking Volkswagens\, spirits on bicycles\, and hearts that leave people’s bodies and take vacations. What draws writers and readers to stories that are unconventional\, uncanny or surreal? Chris will take up this question\, among others\, as he discusses his most recent novel\, Big Giant Floating Head (a 2019 Massachusetts Book Award Finalist). Chris will give a short reading from his book\, followed by a Q & A. \nChristopher Boucher is the author of the novels How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive (2011)\, Golden Delicious (2016) and Big Giant Floating Head (a 2019 Massachusetts Book Award Finalist)\, all out from Melville House. He’s also the editor of Jonathan Lethem’s nonfiction collection More Alive and Less Lonely: On Books and Writers (Melville House\, 2017) and the managing editor of the literary journal Post Road. Chris lives in western Massachusetts and teaches writing and literature at Boston College. In his free time\, he plays the five-string banjo.
