DESCRIPTION:Celebrate two new exhibitions opening in our galleries! \nAbout Material Needs 2022: \nJennifer Davis Carey\, Eric Cruze\, Judith Doherty\, Lisa Foster\, Scarlett Hoey\, Caitlyn Marsh\, Kat O’Connor\, Jessica Sadlier\, and Robin Reynolds \nThe artists of this year’s Material Needs exhibition received awards ranging from $500 to $1\,500 to create new work in Worcester County\, art that is new to the region and to the artist’s practice. Projects supported by these anonymous grants this year include extruded ceramic sculptures\, mixed media portraits of notable historical women of\nWorcester\, enamel works inspired by African traditions\, and more. Since they were first awarded in 2013\, eighty-two artists have had their work advanced by these grants. \n  \nProject Spaces mini exhibitions: \nEvan Charney\, Woodcut and Wood Engraving: Craft and Art \nJohn Slepian\, Small Worlds \nAmber Rose Tortorelli\, Mani(a)c \nJill Watts\, From My Yard \nMark Zieff\, Ghosts of Seasons Past \n  \nBoth shows are on view September 8 through October 9\, 2022 in our main galleries. DESCRIPTION:This hour workshop will teach computer aided design using Tinkercad. Tinkercad is a free fun software system that allows users to build using basic shapes on an x\, y and z plane. It is a great way to learn the basics of 3D modeling and the possibilities of 3D printing! Join us to build and create a three dimensional model of your own or one inspired by a media or literary source. Every student will be able to submit one “2.5 x 2.5” design for 3D printing at the library. These prints will be available at the library two weeks after the workshop date. Ages 16+. Yes\, you can enjoy traditional family foods\, holiday cookies\, parties…while still eating well\, being pleased with your food choices\, and feeling great. \n11/12/22 – Beloved Carbs \nHow should we think about\, and manage\, those carbohydrates we all love? "Carbs" is a nutrient category that covers a lot of ground—starchy foods\, fruits\, vegetables\, desserts\, sweet coffee beverages\, grains\, to name several. We know that excess carbs can contribute to common and serious health problems\, yet some carb-rich foods are fantastic for health! SUMMARY:Champions for Children
DESCRIPTION:Champions for Children is an evening to celebrate\, honor\, and raise funds to ensure the continuing efforts of advocacy and support of children in Worcester County that have been abused or neglected. \nCASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Project Worcester County is a not-for-profit organization committed to speaking for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the Worcester County Courts. The CASA Project\, a member of the National CASA Association\, recruits\, screens\, and trains community volunteers to become Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)\, also known as Guardians ad Litem (GAL). Appointed by judges to help on the most heart-breaking cases in the foster care system\, CASAs help abused and neglected children navigate the Worcester County Juvenile Courts\, one child or sibling group at a time. \nChampions for Children will feature seven local multicultural food vendors serving samples of their unique cuisine\, a cash bar\, and live entertainment. This event will honor five members of the community\, thanking them for their important role in advancing the work of the organization. The event raises critical funds for CASA Project Worcester County to recruit\, screen\, and train volunteers from the community to be appointed advocates for children that have been abused or neglected in Worcester County.

Out To Lunch will be held on the Worcester Common from 11am to 2pm  August 18th\, September 1st\, and September 8th. \nNow in its 12th year\, Out to Lunch events are free and open to the public\, hosting musical performances\, local artists and crafters\, area restaurants\, farmers\, and community organizations and nonprofits. More information can be found on the City of Worcester website: http://www.worcesterma.gov/worcester-common-oval/out-to-lunch. \nHeadlining Act: Fueled by their passion to explore beyond the edges of traditional musical boundaries and with their diverse ethnic and musical backgrounds\, the Alchemystics blend reggae\, politically infused hip-hop\, gritty soul\, hard-driving rock\, and pulsing Jamaican\, Cuban\, and Trinidadian rhythms into an utterly unique and distinctively original new sound. The result is modern-day roots music with global appeal – an alchemy of ancient musical traditions; intricate\, intelligent wordplay; elementally raw soul; irresistible hooks; deep\, driving rhythms; and old-school vocal harmonies – fired by the Alchemystic's unique blend of intensity\, passion and sheer artistic chemistry into a powerful\, contemporary and unmistakable sound. \nIntermission Act: Nfuh is a predominantly men’s socio-cultural group from Mbumland in North West Cameroon. It originally played the role of village defense and protection. Today\, its role has shifted to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Mbum people.
