DESCRIPTION:Walking Tour of Worcester's Peace History Saturday\, September 24\, 10 a.m.  \nThis unique tour celebrates some of the city's many peacemaking forebearers. Come learn about the strategic peace of Massasoit\, Great Sachem of Wampanoag peoples. Meet the Black laborer whose case ended slavery in Massachusetts. Hear the stirring speeches of abolitionists and advocates for the rights of women and immigrants. Dramatic re-enactments and audience participation make for a lively as well as informative tour along Worcesters' Main Street. Walk starts at Lincoln Square and finishes at City Hall. Approximately 1.5 hours.  Parking available in lot across from Worcester Auditorium.  \n  \nThis program is free\, but we do request that you please register so we get a headcount.  Thank you! \n  \n\nThe walking tour of Worcester’s Peace history\, put on by the Center for Nonviolent Solutions\, was a wonderful excursion into Worcester’s inspiring history of activism for peace\, and racial and gender equality. The lecturers and actors did a superb job in bringing to life the citizens of Worcester who fought for these great causes\, from colonial times to the modern day . .  . \n  \n\n\nThese dynamic and inspiring stories\, creatively told\, immersed us in Worcester's vital role in American history. We gained new insights and appreciation of our city and its people while walking down Main Street. \n\n  \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Worcester Arts Council\, a local agency\, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate two new exhibitions opening in our galleries! \nAbout Material Needs 2022: \nJennifer Davis Carey\, Eric Cruze\, Judith Doherty\, Lisa Foster\, Scarlett Hoey\, Caitlyn Marsh\, Kat O’Connor\, Jessica Sadlier\, and Robin Reynolds \nThe artists of this year’s Material Needs exhibition received awards ranging from $500 to $1\,500 to create new work in Worcester County\, art that is new to the region and to the artist’s practice. Projects supported by these anonymous grants this year include extruded ceramic sculptures\, mixed media portraits of notable historical women of\nWorcester\, enamel works inspired by African traditions\, and more. Since they were first awarded in 2013\, eighty-two artists have had their work advanced by these grants. \n  \nProject Spaces mini exhibitions: \nEvan Charney\, Woodcut and Wood Engraving: Craft and Art \nJohn Slepian\, Small Worlds \nAmber Rose Tortorelli\, Mani(a)c \nJill Watts\, From My Yard \nMark Zieff\, Ghosts of Seasons Past \n  \nBoth shows are on view September 8 through October 9\, 2022 in our main galleries. DESCRIPTION:This hour workshop will teach computer aided design using Tinkercad. Tinkercad is a free fun software system that allows users to build using basic shapes on an x\, y and z plane. It is a great way to learn the basics of 3D modeling and the possibilities of 3D printing! Join us to build and create a three dimensional model of your own or one inspired by a media or literary source. Every student will be able to submit one “2.5 x 2.5” design for 3D printing at the library. These prints will be available at the library two weeks after the workshop date. Ages 16+. Through the presentation\, we will explore the years of 1983 to 2006 and witness the growth and dynamic change within Central Square and the nightclub\, ManRay and its twenty years at 21 Brookline Street.  \n  \nShawn Driscoll is a historian\, writer and adjunct professor in History and Political Science.
