SUMMARY:Virtual Poetry Writing Workshop with Susan Roney-O'Brien (March)
DESCRIPTION:This virtual poetry workshop is a vehicle for critique\, a time of close reading and thoughtful responses that help craft the written word so that it says exactly what the author intends. The focus is the work itself. Poets are respectful of each other\, value the craft\, understand the courage it takes to have work critiqued\, and make the final decisions about their own writing. Please join us.  \nWriting prompts will be shared with registrants one week before the workshop via a shared Google Document\, and we request you submit your work at least three days before the workshop to give attendees time to read your poem. The link to the Google Document can be found in the confirmation email when you register.  \nSusan Roney-O’Brien earned her MFA at Warren Wilson College and is the author of five poetry collections. She hosts monthly poetry readings\, teaches workshops and coordinates the Stanley Kunitz summer writing series.

For this eleventh annual “call and response” exhibition\, artist members are asked to consider humanity’s complex relationship with our environment through artworks on loan from the Fitchburg Art Museum. \nFree and open to the public. \nOn view February 25 through April 8\, 2023.  \nGallery hours run Thursdays through Sundays\, 12-5pm. \nParking is available at the Worcester Public Library (McGrath) Lot\, Federal Plaza Garage\, Worcester Common Garage\, and Pearl-Elm Garage. Metered street parking is also available. Please do not park in the lot across the street from the Printers Building; you will be immediately towed. \nWe thank our friends and partners at the Fitchburg Art Museum for sharing their collection so generously with our artists.

SUMMARY:The Seagull presented by THTC Youth Acting Company
DESCRIPTION:February 24th 2023\, 7:00 pm\nFebruary 25th 2023\, 7:00 pm\nFebruary 26th 2023\, 2:00 pm \n  \nExperience Livy Scanlon’s 75-minute adaptation of Chekhov’s The Seagull\, presented by The Hanover Theatre Conservatory’s Youth Acting Company (YAC). In a letter dated 1895\, Anton Chekhov wrote\, “Believe it or not\, my friend\, I’m writing a play! It’s a comedy: three female roles\, six male\, four acts\, a great deal of conversation about literature\, very little action and ten tons of love.” The result of his efforts was The Seagull\, a slice-of-life portrait set on a modest estate in the Russian countryside at the turn of the century. The story focuses on the romantic and artistic conflicts between the young poet Constantine\, the ingenue Nina\, the fading actress Arkadina and the middlebrow story writer Boris Trigorin. Ultimately\, each of Chekhov’s motley cast of characters seeks fulfillment and\, in doing so\, delivers a humorous albeit bittersweet satire\, poking fun at human folly. \nThese performances will be held in The Brickbox Theater at 20 Franklin Street\, Worcester. \nTickets are $20. Seating is general admission. Please contact the box office at 877.571.SHOW (7469) for more information.
