DESCRIPTION:CALL FOR ART: \nTwentieth ArtsWorcester Biennial \nSubmission Deadline: March 22 \nFirst Round of Notifications: by March 30 \nDrop off for in-person jurying: April 13 – 16 \nFinal Round of Notifications: by April 20 \nExhibition Dates: May 4 through July 9 \nArtwork pickup: July 13 – July 16 \n  \nThe year 2023 marks the twentieth ArtsWorcester Biennial\, an exhibition that has included a range of the region’s best visual art since 1985. This year’s Biennial will be juried by Conor Moynihan\, Assistant Curator\, Prints\, Drawings and Photographs at the RISD Museum. Learn more about the juror here. \nThe winner of the Sally Bishop Biennial Prize will receive a $1\,000 cash award and a solo exhibition at the Worcester Art Museum during their 2023-24 season. Previous winners of the Sally Bishop Prize include pen and ink artist James Dye (Exploring the Myths of James Dye) and painters Susan Swinand (Nature Imagined by Susan Swinand) and Kat O’Connor (Fathom: The Art of Kat O’Connor). \nAdditional prizes include the Evelyn Claywell Absher Award for Abstract Art and the Ruth Susan Westheimer Prize for Fine Craft\, both of which come with $1\,000 prizes. Another $2\,000 in prizes will be given at the discretion of the juror. The first one hundred and fifty artists submitting work to the Biennial\, regardless of its acceptance\, will receive a complimentary\, one-year individual membership to the Worcester Art Museum\, courtesy of their Members’ Council. \nThe ArtsWorcester Biennial has no theme. All media are welcome\, including but not limited to painting\, sculpture\, photography\, fiber\, fine craft\, digital art\, and video. Video artists may be asked to provide their own screening device.\nWorks must be exhibition-ready with framing and wire as appropriate. Alternative hanging methods (suspension from the ceiling\, installation with magnets\, etc.) must be tested prior to submission to ensure successful installation.\nIf accepted\, work must be delivered in person or by proxy. DESCRIPTION:Tickets are now available for a concert by the Worcester Symphony Orchestra in Worcester’s Mechanics Hall at 7:30 pm on Saturday\, March 11.  Tickets are available through the orchestra’s Web site (worcesstersymphony.org) or from the Mechanics Hall box office at 508-752-0888. \n  \nThe concert will begin with Beethoven’s stirring “Coriolan” Overture and include the Keyboard Concerto Number 1 in D minor of J.S. Bach\, and the Symphony Number 1 of Johannes Brahms. The program also includes Arvo Part’s “Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten.” Pianist Father Sean Duggan will be the guest soloist in the Bach concerto. The entire program will be conducted by WSO Music Director John Roderick MacDonald. \n  \nTickets are priced at $42 and $35 for adults\, $40 and $32 for seniors\, and $12 for students. Ticket holders may attend a pre-concert talk by Maestro MacDonald at 6:30 pm.
