Enjoy the program selection including excerpts from Madame Butterfly\, La Traviata\, and many other songs and arias. \nLeonardo Ciampa\, composer\, organist\, pianist\nMechanics Hall Composer-in-Residence\nLeonardo Ciampa was born in Boston in 1971. Mr. Ciampa is an Italian-American composer\, organist\, and pianist of international repute. He has performed his compositions at cathedrals in Vienna\, New York City\, Boston\, Altenberg\, Brandenberg\, Tortona and Biella\, and at basilicas in Rome\, Turin\, Loreto\, Rieti and Gubbio (where Ciampa holds the title of Maestro di Cappella Onorario). He currently lives in Worcester\, where he serves as Director of Music at Emanuel Lutheran Church. \nMr. Ciampa is one of the “veteran Hook organists” according to Gagne. Ciampa’s love and respect for the Worcester Organ has roots in his experience from ages 18 to 30 playing an 1859 E. & G.G. Hook at the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain. The Jamaica Plain organ was later destroyed by fire in 2005. “That organ molded me during those formative years.” Said Ciampa. “I never got over its loss. But now\, twenty years later\, I have another chance to create music on one of the Hook brothers’ grandest instruments. It is one of the greatest honors of my life.”   http://leonardociampa.com/ \nGiovanni Formisano\, tenor\n"A native of Torre del Greco (Naples\, Italy)\, Giovanni Formisano has been called\, “an Italian tenor in the grand tradition.” He has received high praise for his interpretations of the Italian lyric tenor repertoire\, with a special affinity for the classic songs from his native Naples. Mr. Formisano’s past roles include the tenor solo in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Amherst College\, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore with Center City Opera Theatre in Philadelphia and Opera del West\, Arturo in Lucia di Lamermoor with Commonwealth Opera\, Cavaradossi in Tosca with the Lowell House Opera\, Pong in Turandot with the Connecticut Grand Opera and Lowell House Opera\, Spoletta in Tosca with the Cape Cod Opera and the Ruggero in La rondine at the Longy School of Music. http://giovanniformisanotenor.com/ \nOlga Lisovskaya\, soprano\nOlga Lisovskaya is a critically-acclaimed singer\, voice teacher and  director of Talents of the World\, an international concert organization\, as well as Executive Director at Commonwealth Lyric Theater\, an award-winning opera company. Ms. Lisovskaya performs regularly at some  of the most prestigious concert halls in the world.  Her most recent  performance was at Carnegie Hall\, featuring distinguished colleagues of  the legendary Dmitri Hvorostovsky and received glowing reviews in the press.  Olga Lisovskaya combines her busy performing career with  teaching\, because teaching is her passion. Olga's teaching experience\, combined with constant perfection of vocal technique with master teachers and colleagues from LaScala\, Metropolitan Opera and Bolshoi Theater\, offers a rich and profound knowledge to her students. Having  worked with singers of all ages and levels\, Ms. Lisovskaya has  individual approach to her students. She teaches wide range of  repertoire – from opera\, operetta\, oratorio\, classical songs\, to Broadway\, musical theater\, and pop. The main focus of her lessons is the technique: breath support and breath/tone coordination\, clarity of intonation and diction\, flexibility in the sound\, focused resonance\, etc. She also helps with interpretation. Olga's students have gone on  to win competitions\, were admitted to conservatories\, hired by opera  companies. Some of her students receive opportunities to participate in productions and concerts with Talents of the World and Commonwealth  Lyric Theater.  OlgaLisovskaya.com \n  \nAbout The Worcester Organ\nThe Hook Organ\, installed in 1864\, dominates the Great Hall. American organ builders Elias and George Hook\, brothers from Boston\, constructed the 52-stop\, 3\,504-pipe instrument\, which is often referred to as the "Worcester Organ." Today\, the Hook organ is the oldest unaltered four-keyboard pipe organ in the Western Hemisphere located at its installation site. \nRestored in 1982\, the Hook Organ since then has become one of the most popular and respected organs in the United States. It has been featured numerous times on National Public Radio\, performed in several recordings\, and has been featured on television and in a major motion picture\, as well as in a music video starring Michael Crawford\, the original "Phantom of the Opera." \nSee the specifications of the Hook Organ\nRead more about the Hook Organ at HookOrgan.org

SUMMARY:Artists' Roundtable: Approaching Galleries
DESCRIPTION:Gallery representation is a goal for many artists\, but one clouded by mystery and intimidation. Three experienced gallerists familiar with ArtsWorcester will break down the benefits of gallery representation\, how to identify the right galleries for your work\, and what you need to approach them. This is an open discussion about galleries; it is not a portfolio review. \nWe will hear from: \nArlette Kayafas\, Gallery Kayafas\, Boston\, MA \nKate Rasche\, George Marshall Store Gallery\, York\, ME \nTamar Russell Brown\, Gallery Sitka\, Shirley\, MA \nand leave lots of time for your questions. Then we’ll adjourn to the galleries for refreshments and more conversation. \n  \nArlette Kayafas is the founder and owner of Gallery Kayafas\, operating in Boston’s South End since 2003. Arlette and her husband\, Gus\, have been collecting photography for more than five decades. In 2012\, Gallery Kayafas expanded its programming to include contemporary painting\, installation\, works on paper\, sculpture\, and new media. Arlette is drawn to artists with a strong voice that is articulated through their work. \nKate Rasche is the director of the George Marshall Store Gallery in York\, Maine\, and a working artist. Over the last decade she has led and been involved in a wide range of curatorial and administrative projects\, including most recently as assistant director at ArtsWorcester. Her work as a gallerist is informed by a desire to support the careers of emerging and mid-career artists. Her work in the studio grapples with explorations and understandings of place. Rasche earned a degree in studio art from Skidmore College and holds an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University. She lives in southern Maine with her husband and two children. \nA Tennessee native with Hungarian roots\, Tamar Russell Brown’s background is in print design. Mrs. Russell Brown has a certificate in photography from Cumberland University in Tennessee\, an associate degree in visual communication from Nashville State Technical Institute\, a BA in design from Rhode Island College (where she currently serves on the Alumni Board) and a year abroad at Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem in Budapest\, Hungary. SUMMARY:May 17 - Provocative Mothers and Their Precocious Daughters
DESCRIPTION:Suzanne Schnittman\, author of "Provocative Mothers and Their Precocious Daughters: 19th Century Women's Rights Leaders\," will share her stories about Abby Kelley Foster and her daughter\, plus three other mother/daughter teams.  Books will be available for purchase and signing.  \nMothers and daughters share a special bond that ebbs and flows throughout their lives. It may not always be solid\, but no matter what difficulties they face\, their relationships are usually unbreakable. \nTake a step back in time to uncover the engaging lives of four mothers and daughters. As pioneer women’s rights leaders\, Martha Wright\, Abby Kelley Foster\, Elizabeth Cady Stanton\, and Lucy Stone worked diligently for what they believed women deserved. Letters\, diary entries\, and journals reveal the strong mother-daughter relationships that not only enriched their personal lives\, but the woman suffrage movement as a whole. \nFrom the mid-1800s to the early 1900s\, these women struggled to make the world a better place. Through their actions and beliefs\, they forged a path for future generations and raised daughters to be determined young women who merit our attention today. \n
