Come learn about the strategic peace of Massasoit\, Great Sachem of Wampanoag peoples. Meet the Black laborer whose case ended slavery in Massachusetts. Hear the stirring speeches of abolitionists and advocates for the rights of women and immigrants. Dramatic re-enactments and audience participation make for a lively as well as informative tour along Worcesters' Main Street. Walk starts at Lincoln Square and finishes at City Hall. Approximately 1.5 hours.  Parking available in lot across from Worcester Auditorium.  \n  \nThis program is free\, but we do request that you please register so we get a headcount.  Thank you! \n  \n\nThe walking tour of Worcester’s Peace history\, put on by the Center for Nonviolent Solutions\, was a wonderful excursion into Worcester’s inspiring history of activism for peace\, and racial and gender equality. The lecturers and actors did a superb job in bringing to life the citizens of Worcester who fought for these great causes\, from colonial times to the modern day . .  . \n  \n\n\nThese dynamic and inspiring stories\, creatively told\, immersed us in Worcester's vital role in American history. We gained new insights and appreciation of our city and its people while walking down Main Street. \n\n  \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Worcester Arts Council\, a local agency\, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

She won the MMGA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Gretel established and maintains a 20\,000 square foot food production garden that has provided fresh produce to the Marlboro and Maynard Food Pantries for the last ten years. The [music] swells in a majestic\, grandiose rendition\, building up to the soaring climax\, and sweeping down back to the calm. As the only Flamenco dance studio in central Massachusetts\, based in the city of Worcester\, Flamenco Worcester is very proud to share this celebratory event with the community. \nEdmy Ortiz will perform a 2-hour showcase. Music will be under the direction of Eduardo Ortiz. Latin Jazz\, Spanish music and Castanets will be in the air\, and beautifully costumed dancers will perform Tangos\, Fandangos\, Farruca\, and many more powerful and elegant Flamenco dance forms. All of the performers\, dancers and musicians have dedicated many hours to Flamenco\, and their passion will be on display. It will be an evening to celebrate\, enjoy and fall in love with FLAMENCO! Ole! \nImmediately after the performance\, dancers and musicians will hold a meet and greet. \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Worcester Arts Council\, a local agency\, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency. DESCRIPTION:Gallery representation is a goal for many artists\, but one clouded by mystery and intimidation. Three experienced gallerists familiar with ArtsWorcester will break down the benefits of gallery representation\, how to identify the right galleries for your work\, and what you need to approach them. This is an open discussion about galleries; it is not a portfolio review. \nWe will hear from: \nArlette Kayafas\, Gallery Kayafas\, Boston\, MA \nKate Rasche\, George Marshall Store Gallery\, York\, ME \nTamar Russell Brown\, Gallery Sitka\, Shirley\, MA \nand leave lots of time for your questions. Then we’ll adjourn to the galleries for refreshments and more conversation. \n  \nArlette Kayafas is the founder and owner of Gallery Kayafas\, operating in Boston’s South End since 2003. The gallery is known for exhibiting work by renowned photographers\, often pairing them with emerging artists. Arlette and her husband\, Gus\, have been collecting photography for more than five decades. In 2012\, Gallery Kayafas expanded its programming to include contemporary painting\, installation\, works on paper\, sculpture\, and new media. Arlette is drawn to artists with a strong voice that is articulated through their work. \nKate Rasche is the director of the George Marshall Store Gallery in York\, Maine\, and a working artist. Over the last decade she has led and been involved in a wide range of curatorial and administrative projects\, including most recently as assistant director at ArtsWorcester. Her work as a gallerist is informed by a desire to support the careers of emerging and mid-career artists. Her work in the studio grapples with explorations and understandings of place. Rasche earned a degree in studio art from Skidmore College and holds an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University. She lives in southern Maine with her husband and two children. \nA Tennessee native with Hungarian roots\, Tamar Russell Brown’s background is in print design. Mrs. Russell Brown has a certificate in photography from Cumberland University in Tennessee\, an associate degree in visual communication from Nashville State Technical Institute\, a BA in design from Rhode Island College (where she currently serves on the Alumni Board) and a year abroad at Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem in Budapest\, Hungary. Mrs. Russell Brown operates the home studio for Sitka Creations® LLC in Central Massachusetts. She started Gallery Sitka in 2014. SUMMARY:Tee Off For WPL! Mini Golf After Dark Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:This event will see the WPL Main Library transformed into an 18-hole mini golf course with greens and holes winding through the stacks. Friday night Mini Golf After Dark will offer an adults (21+) only mini golf event with food\, adult beverages and music. A diverse selection of ethnic food will be provided by Worcester Regional Food Hub. Beer and wine will be available for purchase by Redemption Rock Brewery and Decanted Wine Trucks. Ticket price is $50 per person and includes food and one beer/wine drink ticket. There will be live music\, raffles and yard games as well! \nPlease also see listing for Tee Off for WPL! DESCRIPTION:Suzanne Schnittman\, author of "Provocative Mothers and Their Precocious Daughters: 19th Century Women's Rights Leaders\," will share her stories about Abby Kelley Foster and her daughter\, plus three other mother/daughter teams.  Books will be available for purchase and signing.  \nMothers and daughters share a special bond that ebbs and flows throughout their lives. It may not always be solid\, but no matter what difficulties they face\, their relationships are usually unbreakable. \nTake a step back in time to uncover the engaging lives of four mothers and daughters. As pioneer women’s rights leaders\, Martha Wright\, Abby Kelley Foster\, Elizabeth Cady Stanton\, and Lucy Stone worked diligently for what they believed women deserved. Letters\, diary entries\, and journals reveal the strong mother-daughter relationships that not only enriched their personal lives\, but the woman suffrage movement as a whole. \nFrom the mid-1800s to the early 1900s\, these women struggled to make the world a better place. Through their actions and beliefs\, they forged a path for future generations and raised daughters to be determined young women who merit our attention today. \n
