DESCRIPTION:Walking Tour of Worcester's Peace History Sunday\, September 25\, 2PM \nThis unique tour celebrates some of the city's many peacemaking forebearers. Come learn about the strategic peace of Massasoit\, Great Sachem of Wampanoag peoples. Meet the Black laborer whose case ended slavery in Massachusetts. Hear the stirring speeches of abolitionists and advocates for the rights of women and immigrants. Dramatic re-enactments and audience participation make for a lively as well as informative tour along Worcesters' Main Street. Walk starts at Lincoln Square and finishes at City Hall. Approximately 1.5 hours.  Parking available in lot across from Worcester Auditorium.  \n  \nThis program is free\, but we do request that you please register so we get a headcount.  Thank you! \n  \n\nThe walking tour of Worcester’s Peace history\, put on by the Center for Nonviolent Solutions\, was a wonderful excursion into Worcester’s inspiring history of activism for peace\, and racial and gender equality. The lecturers and actors did a superb job in bringing to life the citizens of Worcester who fought for these great causes\, from colonial times to the modern day . .  . \n  \n\n\nThese dynamic and inspiring stories\, creatively told\, immersed us in Worcester's vital role in American history. We gained new insights and appreciation of our city and its people while walking down Main Street. \n\n  \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Worcester Arts Council\, a local agency\, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

DESCRIPTION:Broadway legend Chita Rivera and Seth Rudetsky launch the second season of Broadway in Worcester bringing their intimate and hilarious tête-à-tête to the BrickBox Theater. \nThis unscripted evening will feature the legendary Broadway icon Chita Rivera in intimate conversation and song alongside host and musical director Seth Rudetsky at the piano. Together they will perform many of Rivera’s signature songs from her vast musical theatre repertoire. Ms. Rivera is perhaps best known for her now legendary roles of Anita in West Side Story\, Rose in Bye Bye Birdie\, and Velma in Chicago\, among many others. \nThe evening is a seamless mixture of intimate and behind-the-scenes stories of Rivera’s career through insightful\, funny and revealing questions posed by Rudetsky at the piano. Her most treasured production is her daughter\, singer/dancer/choreographer Lisa Mordente. \n\nAbout Seth Rudetsky\nWhen Broadway shut down\, Seth and his husband James Wesley have been hosting the livestream Stars In The House which raises money for The Actors Fund.  They’ve had reunions of Broadway shows like A Chorus Line\, Ragtime and The Producers (with Nathan\, Matthew and Mel!) and TV shows like “Grey’s Anatomy”\, “Taxi” and “E.R.” (with George Clooney). So far they’ve raised over $1.1 million dollars and recently celebrated their two year anniversary of the show. Before that\, Seth spent many years on Broadway as a pianist and conductor as well as two years as a comedy writer on THE ROSIE O’DONNELL SHOW (three Emmy nominations with his co-writers). He is now the afternoon deejay on the SiriusXM Broadway channel as well as the host of SETH SPEAKS. He’s performed his show\, DECONSTRUCTING BROADWAY in London\, Boston (IRNE Award) and L.A. (with Barbra Streisand in the audience!). He co-wrote and co-starred in DISASTER! (NY TIMES critics’ pick) on Broadway which was licensed by Music Theater International and is being performed around the country.  He’s written the books SETH’S BROADWAY DIARY VOLUME 1 and 2 (Dress Circle publishing) and has also authored two young adult novels; “MY AWESOME/AWFUL POPULARITY PLAN” and “THE RISE AND FALL OF A THEATER GEEK” (Random House). For a competitive juried exhibition\, we call for wall-hung artworks that are at least 3 feet in one direction (but no larger than 8 feet). All themes and media are welcome\, including but not limited to painting\, photography\, digital\, and fine craft. \nWe are going big in only two dimensions: artwork may extend no further than 8 inches from the wall. (Artists will be contacted after submitting if there are concerns about fitting the artwork through our doors.) \nArtworks must be able to be securely mounted to the wall by nails\, screws\, picture hooks\, magnets\, or grommets (no binder clips). Hear the stirring speeches of abolitionists and advocates for the rights of women and immigrants. Dramatic re-enactments and audience participation make for a lively as well as informative tour along Worcesters' Main Street. Walk starts at Lincoln Square and finishes at City Hall. Approximately 1.5 hours.  Parking available in lot across from Worcester Auditorium.  \n  \nThis program is free\, but we do request that you please register so we get a headcount.  Thank you! \n  \n\nThe walking tour of Worcester’s Peace history\, put on by the Center for Nonviolent Solutions\, was a wonderful excursion into Worcester’s inspiring history of activism for peace\, and racial and gender equality. The lecturers and actors did a superb job in bringing to life the citizens of Worcester who fought for these great causes\, from colonial times to the modern day . .  . \n  \n\n\nThese dynamic and inspiring stories\, creatively told\, immersed us in Worcester's vital role in American history. We gained new insights and appreciation of our city and its people while walking down Main Street. \n\n  \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Worcester Arts Council\, a local agency\, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate two new exhibitions opening in our galleries! \nAbout Material Needs 2022: \nJennifer Davis Carey\, Eric Cruze\, Judith Doherty\, Lisa Foster\, Scarlett Hoey\, Caitlyn Marsh\, Kat O’Connor\, Jessica Sadlier\, and Robin Reynolds \nThe artists of this year’s Material Needs exhibition received awards ranging from $500 to $1\,500 to create new work in Worcester County\, art that is new to the region and to the artist’s practice. Projects supported by these anonymous grants this year include extruded ceramic sculptures\, mixed media portraits of notable historical women of\nWorcester\, enamel works inspired by African traditions\, and more. Since they were first awarded in 2013\, eighty-two artists have had their work advanced by these grants. \n  \nProject Spaces mini exhibitions: \nEvan Charney\, Woodcut and Wood Engraving: Craft and Art \nJohn Slepian\, Small Worlds \nAmber Rose Tortorelli\, Mani(a)c \nJill Watts\, From My Yard \nMark Zieff\, Ghosts of Seasons Past \n  \nBoth shows are on view September 8 through October 9\, 2022 in our main galleries. DESCRIPTION:This hour workshop will teach computer aided design using Tinkercad. Tinkercad is a free fun software system that allows users to build using basic shapes on an x\, y and z plane. It is a great way to learn the basics of 3D modeling and the possibilities of 3D printing! Join us to build and create a three dimensional model of your own or one inspired by a media or literary source. Every student will be able to submit one “2.5 x 2.5” design for 3D printing at the library. These prints will be available at the library two weeks after the workshop date. Ages 16+.
