DESCRIPTION:This virtual poetry workshop is a vehicle for critique\, a time of close reading and thoughtful responses that help craft the written word so that it says exactly what the author intends. The focus is the work itself. Poets are respectful of each other\, value the craft\, understand the courage it takes to have work critiqued\, and make the final decisions about their own writing. Please join us. Writing prompts will be shared with registrants one week before the workshop\, and we request you submit your work at least three days before the workshop to give attendees time to read your poem. \nSusan Roney-O’Brien earned her MFA at Warren Wilson College and is the author of five poetry collections. She hosts monthly poetry readings\, teaches workshops and coordinates the Stanley Kunitz summer writing series.

DESCRIPTION:Walking Tour of Worcester's Peace History Sunday\, September 25\, 2PM \nThis unique tour celebrates some of the city's many peacemaking forebearers. Come learn about the strategic peace of Massasoit\, Great Sachem of Wampanoag peoples. Meet the Black laborer whose case ended slavery in Massachusetts. Hear the stirring speeches of abolitionists and advocates for the rights of women and immigrants. Dramatic re-enactments and audience participation make for a lively as well as informative tour along Worcesters' Main Street. Walk starts at Lincoln Square and finishes at City Hall. Approximately 1.5 hours.  Parking available in lot across from Worcester Auditorium.  \n  \nThis program is free\, but we do request that you please register so we get a headcount.  Thank you! \n  \n\nThe walking tour of Worcester’s Peace history\, put on by the Center for Nonviolent Solutions\, was a wonderful excursion into Worcester’s inspiring history of activism for peace\, and racial and gender equality. The lecturers and actors did a superb job in bringing to life the citizens of Worcester who fought for these great causes\, from colonial times to the modern day . .  . \n  \n\n\nThese dynamic and inspiring stories\, creatively told\, immersed us in Worcester's vital role in American history. We gained new insights and appreciation of our city and its people while walking down Main Street. \n\n  \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Worcester Arts Council\, a local agency\, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

Together they will perform many of Rivera’s signature songs from her vast musical theatre repertoire. Ms. Rivera is perhaps best known for her now legendary roles of Anita in West Side Story\, Rose in Bye Bye Birdie\, and Velma in Chicago\, among many others. \nThe evening is a seamless mixture of intimate and behind-the-scenes stories of Rivera’s career through insightful\, funny and revealing questions posed by Rudetsky at the piano. A versatile actress/singer/dancer\, her most recent starring roles include The Visit\, the final John Kander/Fred Ebb/Terrence McNally musical directed by John Doyle and choreographed by Graciela Daniele on Broadway; the Broadway revival of The Mystery of Edwin Drood; the Broadway and touring productions of The Dancer’s Life\, a dazzling musical celebrating her spectacular career\, written by Terrence McNally and directed by Graciela Daniele and the revival of the Broadway musical Nine with Antonio Banderas. She trained as a ballerina (from age nine) before receiving a scholarship to the School of American Ballet from the legendary choreographer George Balanchine. Her most treasured production is her daughter\, singer/dancer/choreographer Lisa Mordente. \n\nAbout Seth Rudetsky\nWhen Broadway shut down\, Seth and his husband James Wesley have been hosting the livestream Stars In The House which raises money for The Actors Fund.  They’ve had reunions of Broadway shows like A Chorus Line\, Ragtime and The Producers (with Nathan\, Matthew and Mel!) and TV shows like “Grey’s Anatomy”\, “Taxi” and “E.R.” (with George Clooney). So far they’ve raised over $1.1 million dollars and recently celebrated their two year anniversary of the show. Before that\, Seth spent many years on Broadway as a pianist and conductor as well as two years as a comedy writer on THE ROSIE O’DONNELL SHOW (three Emmy nominations with his co-writers). Come learn about the strategic peace of Massasoit\, Great Sachem of Wampanoag peoples. Meet the Black laborer whose case ended slavery in Massachusetts. Hear the stirring speeches of abolitionists and advocates for the rights of women and immigrants. Dramatic re-enactments and audience participation make for a lively as well as informative tour along Worcesters' Main Street. Walk starts at Lincoln Square and finishes at City Hall. Approximately 1.5 hours.  Parking available in lot across from Worcester Auditorium.  \n  \nThis program is free\, but we do request that you please register so we get a headcount.  Thank you! \n  \n\nThe walking tour of Worcester’s Peace history\, put on by the Center for Nonviolent Solutions\, was a wonderful excursion into Worcester’s inspiring history of activism for peace\, and racial and gender equality. The lecturers and actors did a superb job in bringing to life the citizens of Worcester who fought for these great causes\, from colonial times to the modern day . .  . \n  \n\n\nThese dynamic and inspiring stories\, creatively told\, immersed us in Worcester's vital role in American history.
