SUMMARY:Call for Art: Impact
DESCRIPTION:Call for Art \nImpact: A members' exhibition in partnership with the Fitchburg Art Museum \nRegistration Deadline: February 8\, 2023 \nDrop off period: February 16 – 19\, 2023  \nExhibition run: February 25 – April 8\, 2023 \nReception: March 3\, 2023\, 6-9 PM \nPick up period: April 13 – 16\, 2023 \nFor the eleventh annual Call and Response exhibition\, ArtsWorcester and the Fitchburg Art Museum invite artist members to bring one artwork that explores any way humanity and nature impact one another.  \nThe natural world has always inspired artists with its beauty\, power\, and the raw materials it offers for art-making. Today\, in the face of our climate crisis\, many artists bear witness to and represent environmental changes in their work–even as others draw from the beautiful ways humans have shaped and utilized the earth. \nArtist members are asked to consider humanity’s complex relationship with our environment\, along with one (or more) of ten artworks on loan from the Fitchburg Art Museum. These ten artworks explore a range of impacts on the natural world in their themes\, subject matter\, and materials. View the loan here.  \nThe Fitchburg Art Museum’s curatorial staff will select ten works from Impact by ArtsWorcester artist members to be exhibited at FAM with the loaned works. \nSubmitted artworks must correlate in some way to 1-3 artworks from the FAM loan. You will be asked to identify the work(s) that inspired your piece when submitting. All media are welcome\, including but not limited to fine craft\, painting\, photography\, sculpture\, digital\, and video. \nTo make room for all\, wall-hanging artworks must not exceed 36” in any direction including frame. Artworks that stand on the floor or on a pedestal are limited to 90” in height and 36” at the widest point. \nCurrent ArtsWorcester membership is required for all artists at the time of registration. There is no geographic restriction on membership\, but artists (or their proxy) must deliver and pick up all artwork. \nHave a question about the call\, or want to share what you’re thinking of submitting? Email alice@artsworcester.org or call the gallery at 508-755-5142. \nRegister your work here. \nWe thank our friends and partners at the Fitchburg Art Museum for sharing their collection so generously with our artists

SUMMARY:Virtual Poetry Writing Workshop with Susan Roney-O'Brien (February)
DESCRIPTION:This virtual poetry workshop is a vehicle for critique\, a time of close reading and thoughtful responses that help craft the written word so that it says exactly what the author intends. Please join us. Writing prompts will be shared with registrants one week before the workshop\, and we request you submit your work at least three days before the workshop to give attendees time to read your poem. \nSusan Roney-O’Brien earned her MFA at Warren Wilson College and is the author of five poetry collections. She hosts monthly poetry readings\, teaches workshops and coordinates the Stanley Kunitz summer writing series.

SUMMARY:So You Want to Tell a Story: Writing Workshop with Carol Goodman Kaufman
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, we will talk about how to go about getting what's in your head onto the page — from hook to book. \nCarol Goodman Kaufman writes in several completely different genres. In her previous life as a psychologist and criminologist\, she studied and wrote about violence\, but in 2009 she switched to chronicling food and its history\, resulting in regular feature articles for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and the Jewish press. Because she loves a good mystery\, she began writing short stories\, two of which appear in the recently published A Plot for Any Occasion (Potter's Field Publishing). Her first novel\, also a mystery\, will come out in 2023. And under the name Carolinda Goodman\, she has published two picture books for children: Once in a Full Moon and Pirate Ships and Shooting Stars (both with Little Cottage Press).  \nYou can find Carol on her website\, blog\, Facebook\, and Twitter.
