SUMMARY:"A Walk in the Woo" - Worcester's 2022 Rain Poets Read
DESCRIPTION:The Worcester County Poetry Association is pleased to organize this reading of Worcester's 2022 Rain Poets. For two years now\, the WCPA has selected the poems of thirteen different Worcester-area poets to paint around the city using hydrophobic paint – that's right\, these poems only show up when the concrete around them is wet\, hence the Rain Poets. These poems will come to speak this April 23\, given voice by their poets. We hope you'll join us and consider submitting a poem for this year's project! \nThe Worcester PopUp at the JMAC is a free-to-use\, creative co-working space of the Worcester Cultural Coalition and in partnership with The Barr Foundation. This event does not necessarily reflect the views of either organization.

SUMMARY:The Seagull presented by THTC Youth Acting Company
DESCRIPTION:February 24th 2023\, 7:00 pm\nFebruary 25th 2023\, 7:00 pm\nFebruary 26th 2023\, 2:00 pm \n  \nExperience Livy Scanlon’s 75-minute adaptation of Chekhov’s The Seagull\, presented by The Hanover Theatre Conservatory’s Youth Acting Company (YAC). In a letter dated 1895\, Anton Chekhov wrote\, “Believe it or not\, my friend\, I’m writing a play! It’s a comedy: three female roles\, six male\, four acts\, a great deal of conversation about literature\, very little action and ten tons of love.” The result of his efforts was The Seagull\, a slice-of-life portrait set on a modest estate in the Russian countryside at the turn of the century. The story focuses on the romantic and artistic conflicts between the young poet Constantine\, the ingenue Nina\, the fading actress Arkadina and the middlebrow story writer Boris Trigorin. Ultimately\, each of Chekhov’s motley cast of characters seeks fulfillment and\, in doing so\, delivers a humorous albeit bittersweet satire\, poking fun at human folly. \nThese performances will be held in The Brickbox Theater at 20 Franklin Street\, Worcester. \nTickets are $20. Seating is general admission. Please contact the box office at 877.571.SHOW (7469) for more information.

SUMMARY:Call for Art: Impact
DESCRIPTION:Call for Art \nImpact: A members' exhibition in partnership with the Fitchburg Art Museum \nRegistration Deadline: February 8\, 2023 \nDrop off period: February 16 – 19\, 2023  \nExhibition run: February 25 – April 8\, 2023 \nReception: March 3\, 2023\, 6-9 PM \nPick up period: April 13 – 16\, 2023 \nFor the eleventh annual Call and Response exhibition\, ArtsWorcester and the Fitchburg Art Museum invite artist members to bring one artwork that explores any way humanity and nature impact one another.  \nThe natural world has always inspired artists with its beauty\, power\, and the raw materials it offers for art-making. Today\, in the face of our climate crisis\, many artists bear witness to and represent environmental changes in their work–even as others draw from the beautiful ways humans have shaped and utilized the earth. \nArtist members are asked to consider humanity’s complex relationship with our environment\, along with one (or more) of ten artworks on loan from the Fitchburg Art Museum. These ten artworks explore a range of impacts on the natural world in their themes\, subject matter\, and materials. View the loan here.  \nThe Fitchburg Art Museum’s curatorial staff will select ten works from Impact by ArtsWorcester artist members to be exhibited at FAM with the loaned works. \nSubmitted artworks must correlate in some way to 1-3 artworks from the FAM loan. You will be asked to identify the work(s) that inspired your piece when submitting. All media are welcome\, including but not limited to fine craft\, painting\, photography\, sculpture\, digital\, and video. \nTo make room for all\, wall-hanging artworks must not exceed 36” in any direction including frame. Artworks that stand on the floor or on a pedestal are limited to 90” in height and 36” at the widest point. \nCurrent ArtsWorcester membership is required for all artists at the time of registration. There is no geographic restriction on membership\, but artists (or their proxy) must deliver and pick up all artwork. \nHave a question about the call\, or want to share what you’re thinking of submitting? Email alice@artsworcester.org or call the gallery at 508-755-5142. \nRegister your work here. \nWe thank our friends and partners at the Fitchburg Art Museum for sharing their collection so generously with our artists

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to the opening reception of Saffron Notes. An exhibition featuring featuring oil paintings of South Asian women by visual artist Piya Samant. There will be refreshments\, and a cash bar. This event is free and open to the public. This project is funded by a Worcester Arts Council and Mass Cultural Council grant. #wacfunded \nExhibition runs : December 7 – 21\, 2022. \nThe 'Saffron Notes' Story \nFor centuries\, western artists have celebrated women by portraying them as beautiful\, powerful\, and sometimes as nobility. Few parallels exist for South Asian women because we often think of them as playing their assigned roles in society. They have been captured as doting mothers\, loyal wives\, goddesses in temples\, and homemakers performing chores. Seldom does the art world see them as a muse and capture their beauty for who they are\, independent of their role in society. \nThis collection attempts to portray South Asian women in their ephemeral moments of solitude\, beauty\, and thoughts of self-worth\, free from societal burdens. — Piya Samant \nLet’s Connect: Instagram: @art.by.piyali\nFacebook: @artbypiyali | TikTok: @piyasamant | Website: https://www.artbypiyali.com/ \nArtist Bio: Born and raised in India\, Piya Samant now lives and paints in the awe-inspiring New England region\, USA. Through painting I attempt to immortalize the beauty of my subjects in their entirety; not just their face and body but also their character. Floral stilllifes are a delight to paint because I am able to project emotions onto unsuspecting flowers through the play of light and strategically placed brushstrokes.'
